Sony have found a way to nab battery charge from your pal’s phone

It filed a patent for the “wireless power and data transfer between consumer electronic devices”, which was granted earlier this month.
It appears to use NFC technology (similar to what we use to tap in or out on the bus or use Apple or Android pay with).
Which means cable-free charging could be just around the corner.
It might even spark a sharing economy venture, where the everyday person can hand passers by some charge for a couple pennies
In theory, the power sharing should work by placing phones or devices next to each other.
They should be less than 15cm apart for it to work.
There’s no word from Sony on when this will be available.
But the patent stated: “The distances over which the wireless communication can be achieved is typically consistent with distances used for wireless electrical power transfer through the power transfer antenna.
“Some embodiments are configured to communicate in accordance with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Near Field Communications (NFC), Transmission Control Protocol (TCP), Internet Protocol (IP), High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI), and/or other such communication protocols and the range of communication is consistent with these standards.
